The Beginning of the Project(s)

I am having a lot of trouble starting this blog in a nice and eloquent and creative way, but after sitting here staring at the screen and eating half a bag of veggie crisps for like 15 minutes, I'm finally putting my foot down.

This blog is for:
- uploading pictures of my life in Old Chatham and my various traveling adventures
- writing practice

- keeping everyone updated on my life
- projects that you can help me with (see below)
- feminist commentary on world events

- lists
- and probably a lot more.

Without further ado, here is a description of my first project.
PROJECT #1 - Operation: Read A Zillion Books

How it works - I am going to read a zillion books. (maybe not a zillion, but a lot.) And my list of books is going to be made by YOU, my friends. How, you ask? Well, all you do is leave a comment on this post telling what your favorite book is (or maybe two) and then I will try to find it and read it. OR you have the option of sending the books to me. Soooo easy!

Upcoming Projects
Operation: Watch a Zillion Movies

Operation: Learn to Cook
Operation: Send Letters
Operation: Make a Zillion Mix CDs

and of course, PROJECT #0 - Operation: Photos of my House!
(These are photos of the lower floor; the top floor is still being fixed up and decorated, etc, so photos of that will come later!)

I MISS YOU ALL! More soon, promise!

Two books I think are ALWAYS worth their time:
- Lolita by Nabokov. I may have recommended this to you before, but it is seriously one of the best books I've ever read. Disturbing, yes. Worth it? I think so.

- The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay by Michael Chabon. It's long and I found it a little hard to get into at first, but then AMAZING. The writing is great, the story is interesting, and it combines a bunch of things I love: comic books, history, Jewish immigration, and "bromance." I mean... maybe not so much "bromance" as "deep and meaningful connections between male characters that transcend those of romantic relationships." But...you know...bromance.

I've been trying to read through joan didion right now.
I'm almost done with Year of Magical thinking and then will be moving on to Play it as it Lays and a collection of her short non fiction.
I dont remember if you've read her before or not, but I think you'd def be down with her writing style.

more to come.

I've been going through a nonfiction phase, so:

1) Cradle to Cradle (McDonough) - changed my life.

2) The Death and Life of Great American Cities (Jane Jacobs) - pretty dense but worth it, i recommend reading part one and part three and skipping the rest.

PS i'm jealous of your life.
